Becoming gluten-free

Can’t tolerate gluten?

Gluten is one of the most common food intolerances, affecting an estimated 15% of the Australian population. Gluten is found in wheat, rye and barley: foods that make up a significant proportion of the typical Australian diet.

Gluten intolerance can wreak havoc in your physical and emotional life. People who are sensitive to gluten can experience a range of disruptive symptoms, including digestive upsets such as gas, bloating, cramps, constipation and diarrhoea; fatigue; autoimmune complaints; mood disturbance; cognitive difficulties (often described as a feeling of ‘brain fog’); headaches and more.

The only lasting relief from gluten intolerance is to avoid eating gluten altogether. Yet many people who suffer the effects of gluten intolerance find they crave the very foods that cause them difficulties.

How can I stop craving foods that are bad for me?

There is hope for individuals who suffer from gluten intolerance but struggle with food cravings. With the right help it is possible to retrain yourself to stop craving foods that are bad for you.

A holistic and solution-focused approach incorporating hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) will allow you to alter your experience of a particular food or drink, changing it from something you like to something you dislike, while targeting and changing any associated habits and motivation for consuming a particular food. By addressing your underlying needs you can make lasting changes without simply substituting one bad habit for another.

The best part of using this approach is that people find the change easy. It is no longer a struggle to pass up that muffin or slice of cake. Most people find once they have made the change, they no longer enjoy the ‘bad’ food or drink and are able to make healthier choices without thinking about it.

Not just gluten

This technique is not only useful for avoiding gluten. You can train yourself to stop wanting just about any food or drink, whether you have Coeliac Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), fructose intolerance, lactose intolerance, or simply want to stop binging on chocolate, ice-cream, soft drinks or wine.

If you are struggling to give up gluten, or any type of food or drink, and are paying the price, maybe it’s time to do something about it. Call Christine on 0405 220 658 to start your change today!
